1. Introduction

Topi ("we", "us", or "our") is operated by Ashot Tatian, Individual Entrepreneur, registered in the Republic of Armenia. This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect when you use the Topi iOS application and website (https://topi.app), how we use it, and what rights you have.

By using Topi, you agree to the collection and use of information described in this policy.

2. Data We Collect

  • Location data — precise GPS coordinates, collected only while the app is in active use, to find places within 1 km of your position. We do not collect background location.
  • Account data — email address and display name, collected at registration. Email is verified via one-time code (OTP) before access is granted.
  • Usage data — search queries (category selected, timestamp), places viewed. No message content is collected.
  • Device data — device model, iOS version, app version, crash logs. Collected automatically for diagnostic purposes.
  • Purchase data — subscription status (active / expired). Payment details are handled entirely by Apple and are never transmitted to us.
  • Search history — names, types, ratings, and addresses of places viewed by Topi Pro subscribers, stored in Supabase (EU region) and linked to the user’s account. Not collected from free or guest users.
  • Saved places (Favourites) — names, types, ratings, and addresses of places saved as favourites by Topi Pro subscribers, stored in Supabase (EU region) and linked to the user’s account. Not collected from free or guest users. Removed immediately when you delete a favourite or your account.
  • Device Keychain — a single boolean flag indicating whether the complimentary free search has been used. Stored only on-device. Not transmitted to Topi servers.

We do not collect biometric data, contacts, photos, camera access, microphone access, or any sensitive personal categories.

3. How We Use Your Data

  • To provide core functionality: deliver place results (free tier: #1 place only; Topi Pro: all 5 AI-ranked places, saved favourites, search history, and unlimited searches).
  • To manage subscriptions: verify entitlements via StoreKit 2. No free trial is offered. One complimentary full search is available per device and is tracked locally using the iOS Keychain — no account is required and no data about this is transmitted to our servers.
  • To analyse and improve the app: crash reports and anonymised usage patterns.
  • To comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service.

We do not sell your personal data. We do not use your data for advertising profiling.

4. Third-Party Services

  • Google Places API (Google LLC) — sends your coordinates to retrieve nearby place data. Google Privacy Policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy
  • Supabase (Supabase Inc.) — hosts user accounts, search history, saved favourites (Topi Pro subscribers only), and AI ranking cache. Data stored in EU region. Supabase Privacy Policy: https://supabase.com/privacy
  • Anthropic Claude API (Anthropic, PBC) — processes anonymised place data (name, rating, review counts) to rank and score nearby places. No personally identifiable information is sent. Anthropic Privacy Policy: https://www.anthropic.com/privacy

5. Data Retention

  • Location data — never stored persistently. Used in real time and discarded.
  • Account data — retained until you delete your account.
  • Trial status — Free search flag — a boolean value stored locally in the iOS Keychain on the user's device only. It is never transmitted to our servers. It is cleared if the user resets their device.
  • Usage data — retained in aggregate, anonymised form for up to 24 months.
  • Search history — retained for as long as your Topi Pro account is active. Deleted immediately upon account deletion.
  • Saved places (Favourites) — retained for as long as your Topi Pro account is active. Deleted immediately upon account deletion or when you remove a saved place. Also cleared from your device when you sign out.
  • AI ranking cache — retained for up to 1 hour per search, then automatically purged.

You may request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time by emailing info@topiapp.me. We will process the request within 30 days.

6. Data Security

We apply industry-standard safeguards: TLS 1.2+ in transit, AES-256 at rest (Supabase), row-level security policies, and access controls limited to authorised personnel. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure.

7. Children's Privacy

Topi is not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. Contact us at info@topiapp.me if you believe a child has provided us data.

8. International Transfers

Your data may be transferred to and processed in countries outside your country of residence, including the United States and the European Union. We rely on standard contractual clauses with our third-party processors to ensure adequate protection.

9. Your Rights

  • Access — request a copy of your personal data.
  • Rectification — correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
  • Erasure — request deletion of your data.
  • Restriction — ask us to limit how we process your data.
  • Portability — receive your data in a machine-readable format.
  • Objection — object to processing based on legitimate interests.

10. California Residents (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, request deletion, and opt out of sale. We do not sell personal information. Contact info@topiapp.me for CCPA requests.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by updating the "Effective date" and, where required by law, by sending an in-app notification. Continued use constitutes acceptance.
